3.5 stars This one had slow moments but I liked it overall. I'm sure many might be squicked out by the idea that he became her guardian starting at the age of 9 but then ended up wanting to marry her. However, for me, the transition from one type of relationship to another was believeable. I actually really loved the flashbacks to when she first came to live with him. Melted my heart. That being said, I also like that there was a realism with how, even after they entered their adult relationship, they would often revert back into old patterns (him being paternal (aka controlling) and directive - her running to him for comfort).
This book has a big mother of often avoided topics rapewhich was related early on in the story, that will turn some off this book altogether or they will at least never forgive him. I personally felt that the H was redeemable and that the h's forgiveness was warranted.
If you can get past that biggie, I think that there's a lot to like about this book if you enjoy dark, brooding, controlling, alpha males (actually gamma because he can have a sensitive side also).
But I'm mad that we never got to find out about the painting!
